Conversations of a different kind — The Talking Locks

“Ding” the microwave had confirmed to Richard that his coffee was hot enough to be drunk. He was the Head of Security at one of the largest conglomerates in Asia. Started way back in the 1970s as a Petro-chemical company, today this behemoth had branched into Retail, Logistics, Hospitality, and E-commerce.

Till about 2 years ago, he was not this happy a man, he had sleep disorders; was never at peace, constantly visiting the cops with his team to lodge complaints about pilfered stock from his warehouses and trucks, dealing with erratic behavior of his retail staff; issues he didn’t have clarity on how to tackle. He wanted to be at peace and constantly was in search of some solution.

Fast forward today; he travels, enjoys time with his kids, and has been a regular at both the pool and the club where he plays Tennis. All because of the one decision, he took two years ago, where he took the chance to experiment with a new, promising and upcoming Corporate. He was a bit wary but deep inside he heard the voice, “Let’s try them out, everything looks impressive in the deck, let’s just put it to the test”.

He was Oogway; he had found “Inner Peace”

The Talking “Smart Locks”

Sipping his coffee he typed “www.openapp.co” in the address bar, his favorite web page opened in a moment, quickly he reached on to the Dashboard. Soon enough, the chance was taken, the test was passed and this became the place where he meets his best employees, “The Locks”! He loved visiting them and having conversations with them, a ritual he followed daily. Though he had an army of managers reporting to him, all capable of handling the tasks on their own, he always wanted to do so by himself. He loved the space he shared with them in the morning; it was his good karma talking to him.

He had grouped them as per his divisions, as always he reached out to the Retail Locks first. All but two stores had opened on time. Two of the locks were in the red, they highlighted a delay of about 30 minutes, he knew, these truant behaviors were going to affect his sales, quickly grabbed a pen and made note of the observances. He had to bring this to the table with the sales team, and let them investigate! No more excuses were going to be entertained. The locks did not just help close and open the store, but also in providing a detailed log about when the store opened, how often in a day and by whom. It worked like a charm; the sales team were not going to be fooled anymore.

By now, the logistics and warehouse employees (locks) were jumping for their turn to talk to Richard. Pilferage was zero; geo-fencing solved the major issue of trucks being halted midway and opened to retrieve company treasures. However, all locks were tagged to be opened only at the final destination, all were in the green, nothing was wrong. As he scrolled down he saw one of them in the red, It was tampered with, he was sure it would have been a new driver who had no clue how the locks worked. The lock did not open; it was just notifying him that various attempts by the driver had failed. He was impressed by the sturdiness of the same. Zero Pilferage yet again, he knew this time as well, like last year the raise would be great.

150 liters of fuel was being siphoned almost every two days at his fuel boxes in various mobile towers. Today when he visited the locks panel and compared it to the excel report in his inbox he was thrilled to see almost nil incidents. A few couple of liters were lost, but it was probably due to evaporation. It was a major win for Richard and his team, as these were precious resources and he did not want to make losses here! He knew he was being nice to Mother Nature.

Another day came, it was a good day like always; all locks had reported on duty and last night was incident free, he had been adding value as per the usual.

He signed out of the dashboard, sipped and finished his coffee, a Happy Man.

Today he will be visiting a new business venture in Africa, a little notorious with issues of pilferage and organized crime. However, he is not afraid, he is fearless, and a much more secure man. He knew his new employees/locks have him covered. He knew, sitting in his house in Defense colony in Delhi, he could view all of them at OpenApp’s Dashboard.

Oogway’s smiling face came before his eyes and he knew that today would be a great day to do great things in Africa.
