Values of the Corporate — Can it be incorporated into my life

Human life and how we go about it revolves around certain value sets we incorporate. These values come into your life early either through your family, can be through what you see around you, can be through some mentors who incorporate it during your career. There are many values or attributes that come about within you even when you work in a company. I have had many values ingrained into my system through various stages of life. Today, I am going through a crazy patch personally, and painting, blogs, exploring, and re-visiting some websites have got me some perspective.

During one of my visits to a webpage, to help the team with some feedback, got me into the “Buddha enlightenment” moment. The inner me said, Dude, “Don’t you see how this defines your path, don’t you see how it should be incorporated into your life to make those changes?” Highlighting some of the values and how I intend to add them into my life to bring about my well-being. I suggest we should all try and look into our company’s values, try and see if it does ring a bell.

Do More with Less:

Time is the limiting factor, we all have 24hr every day. Be it the richest or the poorest of all, but what we do with our time no matter what the restrictions are is all that matters. We need to understand that there are many things we can achieve within this limited time frame. Go for a movie, get that hobby restarted, cook, call your parents, and meet your friends.

Delight our customers by delivering on the promises:

Be it parents, the wife, or the kid, we all make promises to each other. Some we deliver, some we fail to keep, some get postponed. This creates negativity at times and gets some people frustrated. So like the CEO of the company said, “Under promise/commit and over-deliver”. Keep the promises achievable and try your best to deliver the best outcomes. I have had many promises which were not achieved. I failed on many aspects to all my internal stakeholders personally to a great extent. So getting the mantra back into my life is something I have planned. Smaller goals and promises to hit and hit them well.

Do the right thing, even when no one is looking:

In a segment riddled with kickbacks, we had incorporated these values to ensure the team always has a clear vision on clean business. In my life too I have done many things that were not right, I have been abusive both verbally and physically. This value hit me the hardest as it is true. How am I when I am alone; How am I with people, why do I get so angry, why do I get violent at times. Is this the right thing? If I do it publicly how will I be perceived, if the answer does not make me happy or does not fall in line with the perceived behavior of others have of me, then I am not doing the right thing? So this is going to be my best-laid foundation stone.

Enjoy your freedom, learn from your mistakes, and Move On:

Mistakes happen, how we react to them, and what we learn from them is important. It is fine even if you have to pay a hefty price for your mistake, get up, dust yourself, and move forward. As the great dialogue from Forrest Gump goes, “Life is a box of chocolates, you never know what you will get”. So move on, stop being bitter or sad, the earth is rotating no matter how many earthquakes or tempests it sees.

Stay grounded:

This is explained on the website as good and bad things happen, it should not change the way we treat our customers. Perfect and Apt!! No matter what people do or treat you, it should not change you as a person. It will be a minor bump, just that day, but say Hello World and start fresh and it should not make you assume things, you should treat people exactly the way you want to be treated.

Be Tenacious:

Today I have a million challenges, a trillion distractions, and a mental state that needs to heal. No amount of therapy or medicines can solve it completely if I am not committed to achieving clarity and work towards self-healing. Tenacity/persistence is something else I need to incorporate in life to get things sorted for myself in the right direction.

Lastly, Have Fun

Yes, having fun is something we follow in the corporate. It has been something we do not ignore at all. Be it fun games, a football game or many contests during the week and likewise. This has been long forgotten in my personal life. It revolved around a lot of stuff or things that took the “fun” out of me. I am going to revisit all the deep dark corners of my heart to pull out that person and live life how it is supposed to be. Worry less, live more. Conquer my fears and do that crazy bungee jump or travel around the world. Hope my bosses see this, I will be asking for a lot of holidays… :)
